Frequently Asked Questions

It is natural to have questions before stepping into a new practice. Here are a few responses that may help you feel clearer and more settled. If anything remains uncertain, you are welcome to reach out via email. We are here to support you and help you arrive at your Forest Therapy session with ease.
What is a Forest Therapy session?
A Forest Therapy session is a guided nature based sensory practice inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku (森林浴 or forest bathing). Through gentle invitations, you'll be supported to slow down, notice with your senses, and reconnect with nature and with yourself.
Is there any religious association with this practice?
No, Forest Therapy is a secular, evidence based practice. While it draws inspiration from the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku (森林浴 or forest bathing), it is not linked to any religion. People from all backgrounds are welcome.
Why do I need to be guided?
A Forest Therapy guide helps create a safe and supportive structure so you can fully relax into the practice. The Forest Therapy guide offers invitations, manages timing, and holds space for participants in the Forest Therapy session. The forest is the therapist; the guide opens the door.
What are the benefits of Forest Therapy?
Many participants leave a Forest Therapy session feeling calmer, more balanced, and more connected to themselves and nature. Forest Therapy has been shown to reduce stress, support relaxation, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being.
Is Forest Therapy research backed?
Yes, studies in Japan and internationally have found that intentional time in nature can lower stress hormones, reduce blood pressure and support immune function. Research also shows benefits for mental clarity, mood, and emotional balance.

Understanding Forest Therapy
Do I need to prepare or bring anything?
No special preparation is needed. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for walking outdoors, and bring water. A hat and insect repellent may be useful. For more details, please read the Prepare for Your Forest Therapy page.
How is this different from a hike or walk in the park?
The focus is not on exercise or reaching a destination. The pace of a Forest Therapy session is slow with frequent pauses, creating opportunities to notice, reflect and experience nature with all your senses.
What if I have mobility or health considerations?
Please let us know in advance. Forest Therapy sessions can be adjusted so everyone can participate comfortably, and your needs will always be respected.

Your Forest Therapy Session
Can I take photos and videos?
Yes, though we encourage you to first experience the Forest Therapy session through your senses. If you do take photos and videos, please be mindful of the group's shared experience and the privacy of other participants.
Will photos and videos be taken during the Forest Therapy session?
Sometimes, photos and videos may be taken. These may be used on our website, social media, or printed materials. Care will be taken to ensure participants are shown respectfully and positively. Your participation is completely optional. If you prefer not to be photographed or videoed, simply let us know during registration. For full details, please read the Media Release.

Photography and Video
What happens if it rains?
The Forest Therapy session will proceed in light rain; it can add a beautiful texture to the session. In the event of forecasted heavy rain, lightning or haze concerns, you will receive a text message and email at least 2 hours before the start time. If it begins to rain during the session, a shelter will always be nearby, within a short 2 to 5 minute walk.
Can I cancel or reschedule my Forest Therapy session?
If you need to cancel, please do so at least 72 hours before your Forest Therapy session so that someone else may take your place. For paid sessions, you will receive a full refund or a one-time transfer to another session if you cancel early. Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the walk, or no-shows, will not be refunded or rescheduled. For full details, please read the Cancellation and Refund Policy.

Weather and Cancellation
How many Forest Therapy sessions should I join?
There is no set number. Forest Therapy is less a one-time experience and more an ongoing practice of slowing down and noticing. Like yoga, mindfulness, or time spent at the gym, its depth unfolds over time. You may join one Forest Therapy session and feel complete. Or you may return when you sense a gentle pull toward pause, grounding, or beginning again.
Can I join the same Sitting with the Sky Forest Therapy again, and will it be different?
Yes, each Forest Therapy session will be different as it is shaped by the group, the weather, the season, and the part of yourself that arrives that day. Because Forest Therapy is a practice, not a performance, each return offers something slightly different.
